CAPE TOWN & THE WESTERN CAPE

Nestled below the magnificent Table Mountain, surrounded by beautiful beaches, and award winning wine farms, Cape Town has become one of the world’s premier tourist destinations. Cape Town is certainly one of the most picturesque cities in the world and has a vibrant atmosphere, long hot Summers, excellent restaurants, beaches and shopping along with a multitude of tourist attractions.

Cape Town is also a very popular destination for an Africa Honeymoon and a few days in Cape Town either before or at the end of a Botswana Safari or South Africa Safari is highly recommended

Top attractions in Cape Town include Table Mountain, which offers spectacular views in all directions, and the revolving cable car allows for a fascinating journey to the top of the mountain. Visiting the top of the mountain in the early evening is highly recommended, as the sunsets are truly breathtaking. Cape Point is also a “must see”. Cape Point lies within the Cape Peninsula National Park, and is located at the very tip of the Cape Peninsula. These series of high cliffs form the most south western tip of Africa, where the cold Atlantic Ocean meets he warm Indian Ocean. On the way to Cape Point, you are likely to see Cape Mountain zebra, buck and baboon, as you pass through the Reserve. There are also over 250 species of birds and indigenous flora found nowhere else in the world.

A truly unforgettable experience is a trip to Robben Island, where for more than a quarter of a century, the former South African President Nelson Mandela was incarcerated.

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town is also a popular tourist attraction. Still a working harbour, the V&A Waterfront is a hot spot for shopping, dining and entertainment. With well over 200 shops ranging from designer boutiques to craft stalls, and many waterside pubs, restaurants and some of Cape Town’s best hotels. The V&A Waterfront is one of South Africa’s biggest tourist attractions.

The Cape region is also home to some of South Africa’s best beaches, with landmark beaches such as Camps Bay and Clifton, and the unique Boulders beach, situated in the Naval Port of Simons Town, which is home to the African Penguin. Boulders beach is very accessible, and one is allowed to view, in close proximity, the penguins in their natural habitat.

A visit to the Cape Winelands should also be included on any itinerary to the Cape region. Rolling vineyards and quaint Cape Dutch homesteads lie amongst majestic mountain backdrops and mirror like lakes. A great idea is to meander along a well designated “wine route” within one of the famous regions of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Wellington or Paarl. All these regions offer award winning wine. The Constantia Valley wine route, which is nestled just over the mountain from the Cape Town City centre, is not to be missed, as it is home to the oldest wine estate in South Africa. The Constantia Valley offers magnificent scenery, including sweeping views of the False Bay coastline. A trip to the Constantia Valley can also be combined with a visit to Hout Bay, a small coastal town set amongst magnificent scenery, and where one can dine at one of the many outstanding seafood restaurants.
