Zimbabwe is another safari paradise, with excellent concentrations of wildlife, and awe-inspiring attractions such as the Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Zimbabwe is a particularly good destination for walking and canoeing safaris.
Political and Economic considerations
Zimbabwe has recently become embroiled in political and economic instability, which has resulted in many tourists staying away from this area (with the exception of Victoria Falls). However, the regions of Hwange, Mana Pools, and Matusadona are safe to visit, and excellent rates are available for these regions.
The world famous Victoria Falls, known locally as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ (‘The smoke that thunders’), is one of the seven natural wonders in the world and is a world heritage site. Lake Kariba, Matusadona and Mana Pools, are often referred to as the “water wilderness” safari regions of Zimbabwe. Lake Kariba is excellent for fishing, and the sunsets across the water are out of this world.
On the shores of Lake Kariba lies Matusadona National Park, which is home to a vast array of wildlife including elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, lion, and plenty of hippos to name just a few.
