Itinerary & Fact sheet

The walking safari itineraries vary according to the seasons, and weather conditions, but can cover such areas as the river banks themselves, Lake Tagallala, Steiglers Gorge and the Hot Springs. All the walks are led by an experienced walking guide, and accompanied by an armed scout.

The walks – minimum 4 to 5 hours a day – are based out of a fully staffed flycamp; simple, yet well equipped with mosquito net tents, bedrolls with sheets, pillows, and blankets, and a dome tent at
the rear for changing and storing luggage. There is a shared long drop toilet, and safari style bucket shower with hot and cold water on request. A full breakfast, light lunch, and three course dinner is served daily, and the drinks are ice cold. Each spot is chosen for its view, or for the game in the area, and allows you to utterly absorb yourself in the Selous wilderness. It’s the perfect combination of intrepid adventure and bush comfort.

LOCATION – a variety of stunning locations within the northern Selous Game Reserve.

WALKING – each day is designed to be different, and to offer unrivalled exposure to the area. Walks are concentrated around the early morning and late afternoons, with opportunities for fishing, and relaxing in the shade in the middle of the day. Itineraries vary but will cover a variety of terrain including the banks of the Rufiji River, riverine and miombo woodlands, Lake Tagallala, Steiglers Gorge, a network of sand rivers, open plains, and hot springs.

HIGHLIGHTS – walking through magical and diverse landscapes, and seeing things not always visible for a 4WD safari vehicle. The great variety of adventures to be had, from the riverside to the surrounding woodlands. Great herds of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, hippos and crocodiles. Good sightings of lion and leopard in the early mornings, and fantastic birding. The resident pack of wild dogs can often be seen whilst out walking. The peace of fishing barefoot off a rock.

DEPARTURES – exclusive and flexible departures (minimum of 4 nights) between 1st June and 31st October. There is a minimum of 2 guests, and a maximum of 6 on each walk.
