Itinerary & Fact sheet

With an expert ranger, guests enjoy daily four-to five—hour morning walks, and short pre-sunset walks and night-drive combinations on these intimate up-close safaris. While observing a herd of elephant from a safe distance or tracking a rhino is possible, the emphasis is on micro-systems, and time is spent observing spiders, and ant lions, dung beetles and other small yet perfect natural wonders. Nocturnal game-drives reveal the primal drama of the big cats and other predators on their inexorable quest for prey. Reasonable standards of fitness are a prerequisite but distances covered depend on wildlife encounters.

The safety of our guests is our highest priority. The rangers all undergo intensive specialised instruction at Inkwazi, the ranger training school at Phinda. They also receive additional in-depth training before they’re permitted to lead the Walking Safaris. The rangers begin each Walking Safari by comprehensively briefing guests on how to behave when encountering animals on foot as, despite the fact that the Big Five are not tracked intentionally, they are frequently sighted on the safaris.

Comfortable beds, soft pillows and duvets, en suite hot bucket showers and flush toilets, hearty brunches, delicious dinners around the fire, superlative service and expert rangers and trackers provide the high standard guests have come to expect from these Walking Safaris. These safaris are 4-day/3-night adventure starting every Monday and Friday from 1 March through to 30 November each year.
