The rushing gurgle of the Mambova rapids casts a soft blanket of sound over Impalila Island Lodge. Nestled at the junction of four countries—Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia—and at the meeting place of the mighty Zambezi and Chobe rivers, Impalila Island Lodge is a waterbound wonderland. Surrounded by rippling beds of pink-tinged water lilies and riverbanks of tall grass, a giant baobab spreads its branches protectively over the lodge, keeping any bad dreams, and even too much reality, at bay.

Impalila Island Lodge is a 16-bedded luxury lodge with much to offer discerning clients. From the air, the island is an amazing mosaic of waterways, floodplains and bushveld – on the ground exceptional birdlife, game viewing and assorted vegetation – and in the waters outstanding fishing opportunities. Impalila is also the most secluded and remote of the Chobe destinations but close enough to offer guests the very best of the Chobe river—that is game viewing by boat.
Impalila Island forms the northeastern tip of Namibia and lies just 70km west of Victoria Falls.

The rivers and floodplains are host to a horde of animal and bird life untouched by modern tourism. Huge herds of Elephant follow ancient migratory paths as their forebears once did, moving as softly as the clouds of dust that announce their presence. Wallowing Hippo, proud Lion, rare Puku and shy Chobe Bushbuck are just some of the animals that make the area their home. From the grassy savannahs to the towering Baobab, from the water’s edge to the unfolding plains, this is untouched Africa at its most essential.
