Finch Hatton’s lies at the heart of Tsavo West National park at the foot of Chyulu Hills, along with Tsavo East they form part of Kenya’s largest game reserve. The camp surrounds a natural freshwater spring, flowing through three crystal clear pools, with tents along the water’s edge. Finch Hatton’s camp is unfenced and wild, with game often finding their way into and around the camp.

Finch Hatton’s Camp Overview
The camp accommodates up to 50 people, in large safari tents, each tent is equipped with deluxe beds and all the amenities of a room found in a five star hotel, including a supply of electricity, a fully stocked mini-bar, en-suite toilet, wash basin and large slate walled shower room, complete with hot and cold running water.
Each tent has a clothes rack, wooden Swahili chest, bookshelves and an antique writing desk. All tents have panoramic views of the surrounding springs and forests, large deck balconies with chairs, tables and daybed.
Activities and Wildlife
It is this massive scale that sets Tsavo apart from Kenya’s other National Parks and reserves. Exploring the park from Finch Hatton’s you will rarely see another vehicle, or any other sign of human presence as you search for game on Safari.
Early and late afternoon game drives throughout the park are provided in safari vehicles, with a professional driver guide. Customised drives can be arranged at request. Escorted Nature Walks can also be organized. On offer are optional Sundowner’s in the nearby scenic Chyulu Hills watching the breath-taking sunset with Kilimanjaro in the background. Optional bush breakfasts can also be arranged on the same range of hills with incredible views of the plains.
Day excursions to the nearby Amboseli National Park are offered. This park is famous for its massive herds of elephants and proximity to Mt. Kilimanjaro. The trip includes game viewing and lunch at Serena Amboseli lodge. Other excursions further a field, include Lake Jipe or the historic Tsavo Rail bridge- scene of the famous “Man Eaters of Tsavo” tale.
Tsavo is known for its herds of “Red Elephants”, their skins stained by the local ochre dust and mud. The Park is home to over 5,000 elephant- the largest population in East Africa. Other commonly seen species include Giraffe, Zebra, Eland, Buffalo, Impala, Hartebeest, Bushbuck, Wildebeest and many more.
The best time to see game around Finch Hatton’s is early morning and late afternoon. The morning and afternoon game drives and nature walks are not only your best chance to spot game, but to also witness stunning the African dawn and sunset.
